Watching "The Office" on Thursdays is sacred to me, so if a movie night falls on a Thursday, you can bet it will start at 9 or after.

This week's feature is the critically acclaimed:

A Prairie Home Companion.

Cast overview, first billed only:

Woody Harrelson .... Dusty
Tommy Lee Jones .... Axeman
Garrison Keillor .... G.K.
Kevin Kline .... Guy Noir
Lindsay Lohan .... Lola Johnson
Virginia Madsen .... Dangerous Woman
John C. Reilly .... Lefty
Maya Rudolph .... Molly
Meryl Streep .... Yolanda Johnson
Lily Tomlin .... Rhonda Johnson

Plot Outline: A look at what goes on backstage during the last broadcast of America's most celebrated radio show, where singing cowboys Dusty and Lefty, a country music siren (Streep), and a host of others hold court

A Prairie Home Companion on IMDB.

I've heard great things about this movie, and you can see the impressive cast list for yourself. John C Reily is awesome in anything, and I think I'm a sucker for Kevin Kline movies. That thin asshole mustache he wears is so funny to me.

Post View Review: I found this movie to be mildly entertaining. I thought that the music was particularly distracting. Not that I have anything against country music in general, but some of these songs just went on and on and on. As much as I respect the talent of Meryl Streep and enjoy Lily Tomlin's comidic stylings, I have to admit that I found their group to be the weakest of the bunch. Not that they did anything wrong mind you, but my tolerance for their singing is very low apparently.

Kevin Kline was just fucking hilarious in this. His character was so well played. The epitome of non-chalant, turning everything into a huge deal while keeping it cool at the same time. The scenes where he farted were so perfect and unexpected that I couldn't help laugh out loud. I would go as far as saying that he stole this movie. Harrelson and Reily were very funny musical comedians, great songs for the most part but their songs sounded the most made up of all the performers. Sometimes it seemed like they were just making up the song as they went along.

The strongest player in all of this was Garrison Keillor who played himself in the movie, possibly a member of the actual radio show this movie is based upon. That guy's voice was great man, and he did all of those commercials with the utmost professionalism. He was just plain funny. The duct tape scene was comedy gold.

Rating:C
and that's being generous to the non-musical scenes.

as far as the cast goes, let's play a fun fun game of "one of these things just doesn't belong here".

What a weird movie. I was sad, bored, ammused, bored again, confused, sleepy, happy, then confused again and finally disapointed.
With that great cast, how did they think Lily Tomlin (sp?) could sing?
That old radio guy was awesome though.

Ok, well honestly I thought this movie was painfully boring. It had it's moments of humor, but they were stretched few and far between lonnnnng drawn out silly country songs that werent really that funny. On top of the story not really being that interesting or making any sense. Garbage
